Camino Real

Camino Real is Tennessee Williams’ dream play that borrows heavily from Strindberg’s A Dream Play and The Great Highway. Peopled with characters from literature and pop culture, including Casanova, Camille, Don Quixote, and Kilroy, Camino Real, one of William’s most imaginative and touching plays, takes place in a bizarre afterworld where the royal road of the unconscious empties out onto a real road littered with life’s misfits.

Cutting Ball’s Hidden Classics series this season is devoted to celebrating the work of Strindberg – his plays and plays his work has inspired – in preparation for our production of Strindberg Cycle: The Chamber Plays in Rep in the 2012-2013 season.

Camino Real is directed by M. Graham Smith and features Lauren Bloom, Brian Herndon, Lori Holt, Louis Parnell, Kevin Rolston, Steven Hess.

The reading is free and open to the public. A talkback with the director, cast, and Cutting Ball’s Literary Manager Bennett Fisher will follow the play.

The Cutting Ball Theater’s 2015-16 season is made possible in part by Barbro Osher Pro Suecia Foundation, Bloomberg Philanthropies, Fleishhacker Foundation, Grants for the Arts / San Francisco Hotel Tax Fund, The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Mental Insight Foundation, The National Endowment for the Arts, The Kenneth Rainin Foundation, The RHE Charitable Foundation, The San Francisco Arts Commission, The San Francisco Foundation, and The Zellerbach Family Foundation, and Season Producers John and Paula Gambs, Ken Melrose, and Velia Melrose.
