ONDINE

Casting:

Ondine – female, 18-35 years old – a water sprite – dance or movement training a plus

Whatever you do, don’t close your eyes and don’t nod off. Ondine, a water sprite, finds love on land but when she fears that her knight has abandoned her, in a lonely fit of thoughtless and regrettable passion, she issues a curse: sleep will bring him death. When the lovers are reunited, Ondine is forced to face her grave mistake. How long can the two stave off the siren’s song of slumber? Is their shared dream destined to turn nightmarish? You may be familiar with the classic mermaid myth but this world premiere production of Ondine by Katharine Sherman, directed by Founding Artistic Director Rob Melrose, promises to slay your expectations as Cutting Ball invites you to come ashore and explore the elements.

Rehearsal Period: January 10, 2016 – February 4, 2016
Production Period: February 5, 2016 – March 20, 2016

A DREAMPLAY

Casting:

(2 roles) Ensemble – female, 18-45 years old – to play multiple roles in this 8-actor production of Strindberg’s 50-character play

Welcome to the Heavens, home of the great god Indra and his curious daughter. In defiance of her father’s contempt for mankind and with her own heart full of compassion, the young goddess descends from her celestial home to walk amongst the human race. This robust and relentless examination of the human experience is set within a surreal dreamscape where all things are possible and rules don’t apply.  It is the first play to be written in the form of a dream and was the forerunner to a century of dream-inspired work. Founding Artistic Director Rob Melrose and translator Paul Walsh, the collaborative duo behind 2012’s epic Strindberg Cycle, team up once more to bring Strindberg’s insightful and rugged poeticism to the Cutting Ball stage.

Rehearsal Period: April 12, 2016 – May 19, 2016
Production Period: May 20, 2016 – July 3, 2016
